The phone rang in Rabbi Hertzl Borochov’s office. A frightened voice said, “Hello, this is Dorit Sasson, the sister of Officer Yoel Sasson who was critically injured.”
Rabbi and Mrs. Bernstein were married in the winter of 5769. 1944. France was mostly under Nazi rule. Many Jews fled to more distant cities in France. Among them was a group of children who ran for their lives. Moshe (a pseudonym), an American bachur, sat and learned in the yeshiva’s beis medrash. Moshe was a masmid and he used even his free time to learn Torah.
The class boarded the bus happily. They had waited a long time for this annual trip that was a welcome relief from their studies. They settled down and chattered. When the bus set out, they waved goodbye to their school, Beis Chana of Tzfas, and when they left the area they recited the Tefillas Ha’Derech.
Our story begins a little over one year ago, on Erev Pesach 5778. Rabbi Pinchas (Pini) Zaklas and his wife, shluchim of the Rebbe to Zagreb, the capital of Croatia, were in a huge bind. They were overjoyed that after much effort, financial and emotional, they managed to complete the massive project that they had undertaken with the building of a five story Jewish Center, which now stood proudly in the city of their shlichus.

A group of Vizhnitzer Chassidim from Monsey went on an organized trip, a few years ago, to the graves of tzaddikim in Poland. According to the itinerary, they were supposed to visit the grave of Rabbi Elimelech of Lizhensk, author of the Noam Elimelech, as well as the graves of other tzaddikim. A packed and well-organized trip was planned to enable them to visit as many graves as possible.
