There had been more than one fire in Lubavitch. The wooden houses were not immune to fire and the methods to put out fires were not what we have today. When a fire broke out, it was a danger to the entire town.
The Chassid, R’ Pesach Malastovker, who was known by the name of the city he came from, was a great Chassid. He was an extraordinary amkan (deep thinker) in Chassidus, an oveid (one who toils in prayer and self-correction), and someone with elevated character traits. He used his deep grasp to delve into drushei Chassidus and maamarim that he heard from our Rebbeim.
Throughout history Hashem has done—and continues to do—many wondrous things. Indeed, as we say every day in Shmoneh Esrei, “…and for Your wonders and acts of goodness that You do all the time
The intended result is, therefore, certainly achieved – that there should be the revelation of the name of Moshiach, and even the revelation of Moshiach himself (as he is beyond his name).
The Even HaSh’siya remains intact and openly visible, even in present times, without any change, at the site of the Holy of Holies in the Beis HaMikdash. Thus, the Jewish people’s claim and demand for the redemption is strengthened, arguing that we already openly see the Even HaSh’siya in the physical world.
The message here is that the name Tzemach Tzedek expresses the faith of chassidim, the perfect faith of every chassid, that their Rebbe – for example, the leader of this generation [“Tzemach is Moshiach…for ‘Tzemach’ is numerically equivalent to ‘Menachem’”] – is in fact Moshiach, and if we had merited, the matter would have been fulfilled and manifest outwardly; Moshiach would be visible to the human eye.
