SPREADING HEALING
AND LIGHT

When Dr. Ofer Steier was in school, he was labeled as a child who was unfit for an academic program. * When he became a baal t’shuva, his father said, “Be anything, just not a Chabadnik.” * Today, Dr. Steier is a veterinarian. Between operations and inoculating cows he is mekarev Yidden to Torah, Chassidus and to the imminent arrival of Moshiach.

TANYA
 THERAPY

How can we be commanded to love? It seems counterintuitive, especially in the upside down world we live in, where feelings and what feels good rules.

WHAT MAKES A FIRST-RATE SPOUSE?

In the times of Moshiach, we will all be rich and have all we need. How will we be able to do the Mitzva of Tz’daka? In the times of Moshiach, the moon will have the same strength as the sun – and will not be getting bigger and smaller – how will we do Kiddush HaChodesh? Take for example the relationship between spouses… * Rabbi Gershon Avtzon, Rosh Yeshivas Lubavitch of Cincinnati, begins a new series discussing whether and how are we going to perform Mitzvos in the times of Moshiach.

MIRACLES IN LEBANON

Much has been written about the tremendous work of Chabad during the war in the north. This time, we wanted to hear about the war from the perspective of two Lubavitcher soldiers. * R’ Yankele Gloiberman of Shikun Chabad in Lud served as an officer in a paratrooper unit known as the 96th Division and was one of the first to arrive at the airport in Beirut. * R’ Eliyahu Turgeman is a founder of Chabad mosdos in Netanya, who had yechidus a few months before he went to the Lebanon front. * Thirty years since the war in Lebanon.

PURIM IN CHESHVAN?

Moses is the very engine of the future Redemption just as he was the engine of the first Exodus from Egypt. And as it turned out, Moses was also the catalyst for the deliverance of the Jews from Haman’s decree because it was scheduled for the month of Adar, the month in which the energies of Redemption were introduced into the world by virtue of it being the month in which he was born.

THE MAN WHO BEGAN THE MOSHIACH CAMPAIGN OVER SIXTY YEARS AGO

In advance of the Kinus HaShluchim, we spoke to Rabbi Zalman Abelsky, a Chassid who went on a dangerous shlichus during the days of the Rebbe Rayatz. His shlichus today is as chief rabbi of Moldavia. We asked him questions about the avodas ha’shlichus at this time, in light of the Rebbe’s sicha to the shluchim in 5752: What did the Rebbe innovate in that address? Why weren’t he and his fellow shluchim surprised by the new horaa? Isn’t it better to talk about t’fillin and mezuzos to the unaffiliated, rather than Geula and who Moshiach is? How do you explain the topic of Geula in a rational way to students? What advice does he have for shluchim younger than he, who are afraid to publicize the topic of Geula and the Goel?

IF G-D IS REVEALED, WHY CAN’T WE SEE HIM?

Since every single Jew can experience [what is said in the verse regarding Avrohom Avinu], “And G-d appeared to him,” why do they not actually perceive this revelation?

‘WILD TALK’ ABOUT THE MEANING OF ‘HISTALKUS’

Those who say that the “histalkus” means that the Rebbe has “passed away” from us are unruly individuals, who don’t know what they’re talking about.

POLITICAL UNITY OR UNIFORMITY?

While it’s been good to hear all the talk about uniting the religious and right-wing parties, this unity must be real, disqualifying no one and opening the door to everyone. Only this type of unity will send a clear message to the public at-large, enabling a united list of candidates to garner a considerably larger number of Knesset seats and become a decisive force in the next government.

THREE-TIERED TARRYING

Sodom is the lowest point to which exile conditions can take us. And that is one of the dangers of living in exile even in its most benign forms; once we come off the “mountain” we can fall into the abyss…

MEMORIES OF LUBAVITCH

Mr. Mordechai Lazar learned for a brief period in Yeshivas Tomchei T’mimim in Lubavitch. He later made aliya and was a member of Mapai (Labor Party), but his nostalgia for Lubavitch compelled him to devote a chapter in his book to the Rebbe Rashab and the yeshiva in Lubavitch. * Presented for 20 Cheshvan, the birthday of the Rebbe Rashab.
