DO YOU REALLY BELIEVE? PROVE IT!

Today, everyone is screaming different versions of “We Believe.” Some are screaming that we believe that the Rebbe is still our Nasi. Some are screaming that we still believe that the Rebbe is Moshiach and some are screaming that we believe that the Rebbe is still alive. Whichever version you proclaim does not interest me. All I want to know is one simple question: “Who is ready to volunteer?”

THE ESSENTIAL, REBELLIOUS JEW

The rebellious Jew may also go so far as to deny his or her identity as a Jew. However, no matter how many times one may try to deny his or her essence it cannot change that essence. A Jew remains a Jew notwithstanding strident protests. Thus, every time someone denies his or her essential identity it constitutes a new violation.

MOSHIACH: EXCLUSIVELY FOR EVERY JEW

When the Rebbe announced in 1991-92 that the work has been completed, and now the only job that remains is to prepare oneself and the world to receive and embrace the reality of a G-dly world ushered in by Moshiach himself, once again the mission fell to a relatively small number of people, whether by design or by circumstance.

BRILLIANT CHASSID AND SIMPLE JEW

R’ Itche der Masmid said about Nachum Goldschmidt, “Founding Tomchei T’mimim was worthwhile just for Nachum’ke.” * He was an enormous maskil in Chassidus and he taught Chassidus to tens of thousands of people in shiurim, farbrengens and on the radio. He was very close to R’ Levik, the Rebbe’s father. He was a mashpia in Tomchei T’mimim and ran a Beis Yaakov, and despite all his accomplishments he was the epitome of modesty. * He passed away on 13 Shvat 5736/1976.

LOVING YOUR FELLOW JEW WHO OPPOSES YOU ON SHLICHUS

NO SHORTAGE
OF MIRACLES

R’ Zalman was afraid for the boy’s spiritual fate since he was alone in Sydney, and he worked to convince him to go to the yeshiva in Melbourne. He suggested that Nachum come with his father and promised to find them a place to live and to hire the father for light work in the yeshiva…

ALONE IN WARTIME

But the cursed Russians were themselves big anti-Semites, and they could not make peace with the fact that the Jews excelled in the army. They always diminished our contribution. They just couldn’t fargin us.

BASI L’GANI 5713

Being that shtus d’l’umas zeh and sins cause the Divine presence to depart, in order to bring about a change of course, so that “I shall dwell among you” [as before the sin], there must be “make for Me a Mikdash (specifically) of Acacia Trees, atzei Shittim” – shtus d’k’dusha is required.

BREAKING THE ICE

If you were to take a survey among the experts, you are likely to get a variety of opinions regarding how to approach contemporary Jewish outreach, how to break the ice and get to the point: “Moshiach is about to come any moment! What can you and I do right now to prepare?” * When you approach a Jew and shout “MOSHIACH NOW!” and you tell him, “listen, Jews simply must have Moshiach,” the inner part of his soul is revealed! And there is no need to find evidence and proof.

EVACUATE SETTLEMENTS
IN HONOR OF SHABBOS?

“If they have to evacuate an outpost, they shouldn’t do it on Shabbos,” said Jewish Home chairman Naftali Bennett. In other words, he essentially has no problem with the fact that they’re destroying other Jewish homes, just as long as they don’t do any work on Shabbos. These politicians have totally failed to internalize the simple message that destroying Jewish homes is forbidden according to Shulchan Aruch, Sec. 329, just as the Torah forbids violating the Shabbos. Therefore, an IDF soldier is absolutely forbidden to carry out an expulsion order against Jews, and it makes no difference whether it’s done on Friday night or Sunday afternoon.

UTOPIA 7.0

Clearly, we are at odds with ourselves. On the one hand, those who believe that human effort can and will lead to such a transformation will be alienated by the concept of Moshiach, a G-dly redeemer – hence the flourishing of secular messianic ideologies in the past two centuries. On the other hand, those who believe in the Jewish approach could reason that if the final transformation will only come about through Moshiach, then why bother with our own efforts to create change?
